Finally, after 6 very long months of no competitions it is wonderful to be back into the swing of things. I am so excited to be back competing again and am enjoying all the benefits associated with competitons eg the social aspect, the job of presenting my horse to look their best and the recognition of my training paying off at competitions. Unfortunately in April I developed acute bronchitis for 2 weeks therefore had to scratch from one of the competitions I was nominated for. Last weekend saw me back out in the competition ring at Park Ridge Adult Riding Group. I was absolutely stoked with Belcata Danita and she had not been out competing for 12 months and has only been back in work for a month. She was soft and obedient and worked well. Her first test saw her receive a very high score and gave her a place of 1st. Her second test we ended up in forth place against some very good competition so it was a great start for us! Danita looks great and has come back stronger and improves with every ride. I can't wait to get back into the full swing of competitions most weekends although I am not sure if my poor husband/come strapper will agree! As Danita is one of the most easy horses to keep weight on in the past I have struggled to keep up her energy levels with a minimum of feed. Ron has provided me with invaluable advice on the feeding Danita the correct feed to maintain her energy levels but not increase her waistline. |
