May 2010
Well May has been another busy month for us. We started the month with a road trip to Sydney for the World Cup Qualifier. Em and I took three horses each, Em rode Keniski (her own and Mary Jane Crabtree's), Play Fair (her own and Margaret McCarthy's) and her own Positive Measure. I rode Ruban Son (My own and Sharna and David Glover's), Wyuna Clear Image (Felicity Wischer's), and Tullows All or Nothing (My own and Sue and Chris Tuffnell's).
It was nice to get there a day earlier and have the time to ride them around the venue. Em had Dressage on Friday Night and the rest of our horses were on the Saturday and the Sunday. Sydney is such a competitor friendly venue, it was great to be able to use the facility, it's definitely our best venue. We had a good weekend happy with all the ponies for there efforts, and we hit the road on Sunday night to drive all the way home to work Monday. After Sydney we had a couple of Show Jumping weekends at ASEA which is always great to jump around some good gear without the pressure of the comp as it is Freshmans and you get to ride as many rounds as you like as the height gets bigger. So good to take the young ones out to experience the bigger tracks. The next event was Heytesbury Horse Trials, again we both took a truck load each. I was a professional Pre Novice rider with 3 in the Pre Novice and one in the Preliminary. Em was also Professional Pre Novice rider with 2 in the class and one in the Preliminary. This was definitely our first taste of Winter it was FREEZING!!!!!!!! Everything was frozen in the mornings, including us. It took half an hour of riding before you could start to feel your fingers and toes. We were happy with them all after the dressage with most of them lying in the placings. On Sunday it started early with the Show Jumping and the Cross Country and we were all systems go. As we had many horses in the one class there was no time to stuff around. All of the horses were jumping well Show Jumping and Cross Country until I decided to slide into a fence and fall off, I have some very funny video of this. The problem being I landed on my head and was not allowed to ride the last on cross country. Ems horses all went well, just slow as the going was a little deep in spots. Next month is Melbourne Three Day Event and Both Em and I decided to not run horses at the event. We decided to Keep Ems 2 Balmoral Cavalier and Keniski along with my ESB Irish Endeavour for Adelaide CCI****. We are really excited about our Pre Novice horses going one star but we did not want to rush them to Melbourne. It looks like we might have a little break over the Three Day Event. Will and Em.
